Sons of Valhalla

Widows Sons Scotland – North Chapter

The Sons of Valhalla

Widows Sons Scotland first established a presence in Shetland when Bro. Ian Shewan joined, from there the next member spotted him with Widows Sons cut on at the Orkney TTT Rally requested more info and before long Bro. Ian Williamson was our second member. We now have ten brothers on Shetland with more hopefully to follow.

The 60 North, Sons of Valhalla logo was the idea of Bro. Ian Shewan for the Shetlanders as an extra identification unrelated to WSS but a specific Shetland Masonic patch. It was designed by Bro’s Alan Smith, Ian Shewan & Ian Williamson, then tweaked and finalised by Alan’s daughter Faye.

This has become one of the most sought after Widows Sons patches, and can only be purchased by those who have made the effort to visit Shetland, as pictured above; the last being 2 Widows Sons from North Wales Chapter. Any brother wishing to visit will be made most welcome with open arms and and witness the great hospitality offered by the Sons of Valhalla – Just get in touch and let us know you’re coming.

The members in Shetland have regular ride outs around the isle; mostly in the summertime (or 6 months of spring) incorporate visiting other brothers for a blether, a cuppa and cakes/biscuits. We also go to sunday teas to whichever halls are open on the day or just a trip to various locations and get some photos etc.

Bro. Ian Shewan has supported WSS on many occasions arranging bus tours & hospitality when we have been up for the Simmer Dim Rally & Orkney TTT Rally –  There’s always good craic with plenty of drinks,  pies and sandwiches available for a bit of a bite to eat.

I think it’s becoming a bit of a tradition now in line with the rally and again we’re very grateful for the hospitality Lodge Delting has for us and our visitors. The rally usually ends with a visit to Morton Lodge on the Sunday before head back home to the Mainland via Ferry.

There are two other motorcycle clubs in Shetland, Zetland Motorcycle Club (ZMCC) & also the Shetland Classic Bike Club, many of our members and support the other clubs on the Isle.

There are two main rallies held in Shetland, the most popular being the Simmer Dim Rally held in Ollaberry usually 3rd weekend in June and North Rock Rally held in Unst usually last weekend in July with a 3rd rally possibly in the making..!!

In 2022 ZMCC held a charity rally at Vidlin on 9th – 11th July 2022 (the original location of Simmer Dim) it was intended to be a one off rally raising funds for prostate cancer. Given the success they had they have decided to hold another one this year on the 3rd weekend (18th – 20th August 2023). Hopefully this will become an annual event. (And better weather than in June) as some brothers have experienced 😉

Some Pics of the S.O.V can be found in our media Section here.

All the best from 60 North, Sons of Valhalla, Shetland. 👍
